You CAN Write!

7 Feb

morning pages

I love to write, i just love it, the way your hand moves to make words, which make sentences, which make pages, which make chapters.. which make books.

I know some people don’t like to write and I don’t blame them.  Sometimes it’s hard to find a place to start.  Sometimes I’m tempted to give up when I begin to write but once I have a day or two to let my mind wander: wander into what my next word or sentence or chapter will be, I feel good, I feel ready.

When I did NaNoWriMo it was hard and I couldn’t take a break whenever I wanted to, because I had to finish in the month.  I did it! I finished my book and I am so happy!  I didn’t just do it to have a book to publish, I did it because I could say, I did it.  I finished my book in one month!

I wanted you to know that you can write too!

Here’s how to get started:

1.Find a blank piece of paper and pen.

2.Think of something you wanted to happen to you or a story you have always wanted to write. Write down words that come to mind when you think of a topic you want to write on.  Some ideas if you can’t think of any: lovely, beautiful, honest, fun, exciting, crazy, book, story, baby, gentle, mystery, writing.

3.Pick a word from your list.  Think of something about that word like pretend you picked Book, here is something i would write about it:

A Book

A place were words come in tumbles, a place were you can read what other people thought.  What they want there world to be like or maybe it is the other way around, what they don’t want there world to be like.

You see how in that one sentence I wrote my ideas about a book.  See a story is like this, you pick an idea and write about it but instead of one sentence try and hit a chapter and then make that chapter five chapters and then a whole book and guess what, you did it.

There are all kinds of writing that you can try.  I just told you about starting to practice writing a book but there are other types like writing a poem or a script or a recipe and lots more and so when you say “I can write” that can mean all kinds of things.

Say right now: “I can write” and you might say right after that you are lying but… I have a question.

Do you write letters?

Do you make poems?

Do you send e-mails?

Do you write in a diary?

If you do any of these things you are not lying.  You can write and you did and you will.  Jump up and yell “I CAN  DO IT” because you know that you can if you just write a sentence or more or if it’s just a word you still did it and so praise yourself because you can do it!!!

    Dear Story,

What a great name – I always wanted to be (nick) named Story:). How fun to see you writing on here, and with such zest for words! Your writing is inspiring to many I am sure. You remind me of me at your age (although I think you probably write a little more concisely :) ). All I can say is keep going! Writing never gets old unless you let it.
